Welcome

Founded in 1994, Kid Art Dallas has been in continuous operation serving thousands of Dallas' young artists for over 12 years. Our classes are kept small to give your child more individual attention.

We teach the skills required to draw, paint, sculpt, and work in mixed and 3D media,
but along the way we also teach art appreciation and history, socialization, focus, and communication skills.

The owner and founder, Vicki Thompson-Alberts, is proud that so many of our students come back year after year. We hope you'll join us to make this the best year yet!

Meet the Teachers

Vicki Thompson-Alberts (Founding Owner & Teacher) realized in third grade that she was an artist and knew even then that she would become a professional artist. She focuses her own work on drawing, painting and sculpting the human figure.

Vicki received a BFA with an all-level teaching certificate in Art from the University of Texas at Austin and began her teaching career in Dripping Springs, TX. She went on to become an award-winning art teacher with the Austin Independent School District for 15 years.

After moving to Dallas, she founded Kid Art in 1994. This is her 30th year of teaching.

Catherine DeWald (Teacher) has been making art as long as she can remember.  She will begin her 12th year of teaching with Kid Art this year.  Cathy received her BFA with a Concentration in Art History and Art Education from Southern Methodist University.

Her creative job experience touches many areas of professional art and design: Graphic Artist in Santa Barbara, California, stylist and designer of catalogs, docent with the Dallas Museum of Art Children's Program, and artist/painter for B's T's Clothing.

Cathy is a tennis and travel enthusiast.

Erin Fairbrother (Teacher)
As an only child, Erin spent her childhood immersed in books, art, and imagination. Drawn to working with children from an early age, she volunteered in hospitals, worked in puppet theater, and gave private art lessons. In college she majored in Child Development with a minor in Art and found a way to implement both when she took a position for the next four years with The Purple Crayon in Plano, TX.

In 1998 she moved to Dallas and accepted a position to explore film as an art medium producing commercials and films on an executive level for the next six years. Deeply missing the children and varied mediums of the art world, she was overjoyed at the opportunity to work with Vicki Alberts, Cathy DeWald, and Kid Art. She has been with Kid Art for five wonderful years.

Our Teaching Philosophy

Our goal is to give your child the opportunity to realize their potential as a creative human being in a safe, supportive, and FUN environment. We offer art experiences that encourage cognitive development and creative thinking, maintaining balance between structured approaches and individual self-expression. We make art while also teaching art appreciation, history, and culture in order to develop their sensory and global awareness. Your child will develop and improve their fine motor skills while learning about specific media and techniques. We guarantee that their life and yours will be enriched while building self-confidence and self esteem.
